Kristy Wood Maners has been around a long time. She began taking gymnastics from Head RGA Coach Donna in 1990. The mat she learned her back handspring on is ready for retirement, but we are keeping it for sentimental reasons. Although Kristy is now 26, she can still do some amazing skills, like full twists on floor, and aerials, and flipping & twisting baskets. Kristy competed in gymnastics for many years before becoming one of the best cheerleaders this county has ever seen. She could take to the hard wooden basketball courts, and do a series of handspring, whipbacks, like no one has ever seen to this day. She probably did handspring, whip back, handspring, whip back, handspring, whip back, maybe the entire way across a high school gym, many times. She was a star, and to us, still is. Kristy became captain of her high school Varsity Cheerleading team, and made NC State Wolfpack's Varsity Squad as a freshman. Very remarkable. She is a portrait of perfect while performing. Kristy was part of a National Champion College Cheerleading team. She received an accounting degree from NC State. Kristy coaches our All-Stars at RGA, and they are awesome largely because of her expertise. She makes hard things look easy. Anyway, we sure love Kristy, and hope she will continue to be around for many more years to come! She still holds the record for backhandsprings, since she was 7 in not only number in a series, but in speed as well after all these years. She did more than 20 in a row all those years ago out on the soccer field at the old YMCA. Kristy is a genius at anything she does! |
